This is directed to Ryan.
Seeing as how you guys sell the photon freedom lights on your website and with so many people using them(myself included), why hasn’t anyone on here done a full review. I only bring it up because I saw that you guys did a reveiw of the fusion headlamp. I think that we(your readers) would love to hear your opinions on the photon and the results of some serious testing. With so many people using these little wonders and some brave souls trying custom models
(Doug Ritter Special Ed., etc…)that more attention might be paid to some of the small task lights. I do not know about everyone else on here, but I myself have stopped using heavy headlamps all together. The photon just seems to do the job. With so many different task lights (from cheapest and crappiest to expensive and specialized), you guys could have a lot of lights to love and hate. I (and others I am sure) would love to hear what you have to say on the topic.

Perhaps they don’t want to do full reviews on items they sell, as it would be a conflict of interest.

BPL has more integrity than any other outdoors publication I’m aware of, and that’s something they’ll want to uphold.

Hi Jonathan,

I tag-teamed with Will on the Freedom spotlight review. Is there anything specific we didn’t address that I might be able to help on?

Personally, I’m impressed with the little Photon for both its maximum performance and sophisticated controls. My caution revolves around the output curve (graphed in the Spotlight), which should be a warning to anybody trying to substitute the Photon for a more traditional headlamp for extended nighttime navigation. The button cells simply can’t provide steady high output.

In more typical intermittent use at less than max output, it’s definitely enough of a light to camp by for many nights before the first battery change. Battery rebound is pretty robust between uses.

The clip and lanyard are nice additions, as is the screw-free battery access.
