Considering the general quality of Sportsmans Guide gear, that it’s duck down, and contains 20% feathers I wonder if another jacket would be a better option, like the Land’s End SnowRoller jacket or Cabelas 650 fill Down Jacket. I tried the Cabelas vest and it seemed pretty high quality, though the 2XL I got was *way* too big for me, so I’d size down one or two sizes.
Never used that particular Sportsmans Guide jacket, though.
Jeff,
This jacket costs $49.97, weighs 23 oz, and will keep the average male thermo-neutral to the mid-teens. It is OEM'd by a number of different companies but the SG site has the lowest price for it.

Richard,
Thermo-neutral at which activity level (which line in your chart?)
Hey, I bought a Lands End Snowpeak 700 Down Jacket when I couldn't get my hands on an EB Downlight. Right now they are $49.99 with free shipping. The jacket is nice enough for the price. Mine was a medium and weighed 13.8 oz. I managed to get an EB Downlight on Gear Swap so I sent the Lands End back. I had no complaints with it, and would reccomend it if you can't find the EB. But first choice would definately be the Eddie Bauer Downlight.
Camp chores or 1.75 MET.
Continuing in the hunting and fishing theme, and the search for cheaper options, I emailed Cabela's about their "superlight 750 down jacket" which is $129. They replied back that the men's L is 20 oz with 7 oz of down. So much heavier, but with more down, than the ligher options reviewed here on BPL.
Michael,
My test data base for the Superlight shows an average medium jacket weight of 21.6 oz and an average fill weight of 6.5 oz; this is close to the specs you received but not identical.
Cabela's has two other jackets that test within 1 degree F of the same minimum temperature as the Cabela’s Superlight. The one that provides the same warmth at less cost is their Cabela's 650 Goose Down Jacket at $69. The one that provides the same warmth at less weight is their Cabela's McKinley 700 Down Jacket at 18.5 oz.
To be fair to Will, remember that he explicitly stated that he was testing jackets weighing less than 14 oz in his most recent down jacket reviews series. This typically limits this class of jackets to a thermo-neutral temperature of ~32F while doing camp chores (3 seasons).
