I am wondering if there are any packs around similar in weight/volume to the Golite Ion? The original MSRP of $50 is also a very attractive feature of the Ion.

The REI Zip travel pack is another 20l bag that has water bottle pockets and is only $30. At least with the bottle pockets you can squeak a little more space from the pack bag.
But there aren't many simple 25 liter packs out there. I'd like to see GoLite revive the Ion with mesh side and front pockets.
Oct 3, 2010 at 8:08 pm #1651146Maybe I should be a little more specific. Any packs in the 1500-1600 cubic inch range that are around 8-10 ounces? AND under $100?

Oct 4, 2010 at 12:17 pm #1651335Ron just posted this in gear deals and my immediate thought was that it's a better and lighter golite ion. All the capacity and simplicity of the Ion, with a shock cord upgrade and no stupid waterproof zipper or zipper flap to deal with. Better shoulder harness padding too. Best part…it's available without having to get into a bid war on ebay
Oct 4, 2010 at 12:45 pm #1651352Like an Ion but much better, with MLD quality, better closure, bungee system. If you can fit your stuff into 1500, and don't mind the lack of exterior water bottle holders, this is a great pack, it seems.
Oct 4, 2010 at 12:54 pm #1651357The newt looks perfect. I think I found my next pack. Thanks guys.
