As some of you know and some of you don't, I make custom quilts. I haven't been advertising directly, and I don't have a website, but we've been pretty steadily ordered up to a 6-8+ week wait.

I wasn't planning on taking anymore individual quilt orders this year, as I'm covered up, and working on building stock for a collaborative quilt model that TiGoat will be retailing through their store, plus clearing the pipeline of half-finished protos that need field testing.

However, I recently came into enough yardage of 2layer eVENT to make a couple of quilts that I think will be unique, and massively useful for those with the need and understanding to put them to good use, so I'm opening up two slots for custom quilts with eVENT panels.

I envision these both ideally as serious winter quilt/top bags, sewn footboxes with an omni-tape opening V shaped closure of single layer fabric to prevent drafting. Depending on the target temp rating, I'll do full lateral draft tubes and collar.

Here's an example of a quilt I made to show you what I mean:V

They'll be stuffed with 900fp down.

I've got enough eVENT to do one with a full eVENT outer shell, and one with an eVENT footbox and top strip.

I'll do any target temp below 20, unless you can convince me a purpose where it would be better suited.

I'm only interested in doing these quilts for experienced users or pros, someone that understands the advantages/limitations of this potential design, and has a real use for it.

These will be expensive, but should be one of the most exclusive pieces of gear out there. I'm only making 2 this year, maybe ever.

Contact me directly at javan.dempsey "at" gmail.com if you're interested or PM.

I'll send more pics of my work by request, but I'm guessing that most here that consider this already know it.

Thanks!

Got the eVent fabric in today, it's a very light silver color. It looks very nice, and is extremely light for what it is. ~1.6oz per square yard.

I can mate it with black, gray, blue RS or black taf in 20d 0.9oz Intrepid.

i assume the advantage is lack of mositure collecting in the quilt? but would the free flowing nature of it lower hte tmep rating?

Ike, the eVent is the most effective WPB fabric available. The fabric is completely waterproof and windproof yet will allow moisture vapor from the body to escape. The fabric shouldn't affect warmth negatively at all.

I wont be able to tape the baffle seams from the inside, but they can be sealed with Seam Grip, although I may be able to tape the inside of the footbox where it connects to the quilt, and hem lines.

Essentially, these quilts can come as close to waterproof as possible without being a completely sealed vapor barrier. I also believe the eVent will help transmit moisture more effectively outside the bag in frigid temps, where if it does re-freeze, it will hopefully do so outside waterproof barrier.

The full eVent bag would most likely be ideal for Alpine Climbing or Mountaineering most specifically, or extreme conditions when tarping, especially without a bivy.

eVent Footbox version should allow an extra high level of protection from the elements while tarping (especially for non-beaked tarps with shifting rain), and from condensation in single wall tents.

There are a few options available for eVent bags, but I'm un-aware of any quilt options, although I do recall that at one time Ron at MLD may have made a few synthetic quilts with eVent footboxes.

I'm not claiming to be an expert on the types of activities where this kit would be most useful, that's why I'm putting it out here for the person that needs it and knows it. What I listed above are just examples of how I think it might best be used.

Yes – Ron Bell (MLD) does offer eVent foot box and eVent strip at the top of his quilts.

As you say, he does, just checked the site and it's still an option on the synthetic quilt they make.

So I guess this is the only option for a down eVent quilt.

With that said I think I've decided only to make 1 of these, the full eVent outer model. I'm keeping the rest of the 2-layer for another project atm.

Javan made a summer weight down quilt for me earlier this year. Top notch work and great to work with!

I paid him to say that! ;P

No seriously, thanks Don. You were great to work with also.
