wondering if anyone has used the M10 and what they think of it vs say eVent and Packlite?

I used my M10 for the first time during a very windy and rainy weekend on Mt Shasta in September. I had it on over a merino wool base layer, an R1 hoody, a Nano Puff Pullover and a guide hoody (it was also pretty cold). Despite having all those layers on, and moving around a lot, I was not wet from perspiration on the inside or from water from the outside. It also did a great job as a wind barrier. I have both Pro-Shell and eVent jackets and I think this breathes about equal to them, definitely no better or worse than either of them. Hope that helps a little.

Have never tried one on in person (BC.com was out of them, as was the Patagonia Store near me), seems like an awesome shell that doubles as a windshirt

Thanks Steven, thats a huge help — I was wondering what your thoughts were on the whole Pro-Shell, eVent, M10 breath ability continuum?

Note that I only wear a hardshell when I have to.

My M10 performed as good as an Event shell a tried 2 years ago.
It kept me dry and comfortable in some typical New Zealand summer rain (50 F and 20 to 40 mph winds). I have used in calmer conditions and felt good.

The pitzips are huge and easy to use.
The hood is a bit awkard to use, but you get used to it after a while.
And I actually like it now, it does not inhibit my sight as much as other hoods.

If you can still get one, get it.
The DWR seems to be good (Patagonia is known for that) and the fabric feels good.

I used to stick with GTX until living the swamp that is DC. How does th M10 hand humidity?

there are so many factors.

any membrane will work better when it is cold.

hot and humid are not the best conditions for a membrane.

I only hike in climates where it is cold when it rains.

If it is just a light and warm drizzle I just get wet and keep moving.

I can only tell you that the M10 works as good as Event.

You might be better of with an umbrella in really warm and humid conditions.

You could try something like Paramo in below freezing weather if membranes don't do it for you.

Thanks for the feedback.

Someone told me somewhere that it was prohibitively $$$ to make, which is why they went with GTX. Dunno
