I hope your request for time off goes through. If you need your employer to call someone to give a recommendation for the time off, I'd be glad to talk to him/her. :)
I'm going to be thru hiking the PCT starrting in April. If you're on a tear to get 'er done, you could pass me! :) Hope to see you out there!

I'm with you on the "What if" non-asking.
When I hear people, regardless of specific topic, say they do not ask the "What if's" it makes me ask myself if they dream…or examine their lives, and make concessions/adjustments as they go.
I'm not putting anyone down, by any means, I'm just echoing your sentiments. We're all different, and asking the "What if's" helps me, and helps me to put something down as a plan to act on.
