On my search for a cheap primaloft light wieght hooded jacket I found the LL bean Ascent PrimaLoft Hooded Jacket. But I can't seem to find a lot of info on the wieght of the jacket or the gram of the primaloft used. Any one own one.
Thanks Jeff

I'd much rather have Thermaloft Micro insulation or Climashield (probably best) for better loft retention over time.
I have not looked into the thermaloft but I will do some research on it.
I have done a couple of searches for a climashield light wieght jacket and have not been able to find any. Do you happen to know a brand I should be searching for.
Thanks Jeff
I found after a quick search that TNF uses Climashield. Not sure if that really helps though.
I had to talk to the people at LL bean to figure this out because it seemed like an awesome buy, but it is pretty heavy. Here is what I found out:
weight: 1 lb 11 ounces or 765 grams
insulation: 5 oz on the body 4 oz in the sleezes
fill: primaloft 1
water repellent: DWR coating
cheers
Eric, can you give an example of a thermaloft or climashield jacket? I've been looking and haven't see one (other than an add for an older womens patagonia puff jacket.)
primaloft works fine … just dont stuff it in a compression sack or a top loading washing machine
the premier alpine jackets used by guides use primaloft … patagonia DAS
synthetic jackets will usually be heavier regardless … if they arent then they just arent that warm … case in point the montbell thermawrap parka or my arcteryx atom lt hoody are only about as warm as a 200 weight fleece
it is however lighter than a 200 weight fleece ;)
the rule with synthetic jackets (like syn bags) is that you buy them cheap and on sale … and wear em out … and buy a new one … and youll prob still be ahead
