Does anyone have a professional recommendation on the best way to seam seal?

It seems some say to put inside fabric, others say outside the fabric. I personally think outside makes more sense.

Also, in sunlight or not in sunlight?

Not a professional opinion , but I have done a few.
Inside or outside ?
It depends on the type of stitching used .
Mc Nett recommends doing the inside (may have to do with cosmetic) Tarptent and SMD recommend doing the outside.
I used to do Biblers and Black Diamond on the outside also , but cannot remember why .
I do both sides on mine simply because I can. Works for me but it is most likely unnecessary.
Some suggest using a syringe and thumb method, others a sponge brush or a paint brush.
TT suggests the sponge brush, I have used the syringe (supplied with the Bilblers) and now use the paint brush.
No real idea if under the sun is better or not. I have done tents under a cloudy sky at 50 f as well as open sun at 90f.
Easier in the shade but cannot say if it is "better"
This is how I do it ..

Franco,
I just received my new DR and am planning to seal it this week. In looking at it, I had a question on whether or not you seal the seam where the yellow pole sleeve joins the canopy and if so, is this done on the outside or inside. I'm asking because of your TT expertise and on your video that seem wasn't directly pointed to.

Thanks

Yes you should seam seal that and from the outside.
You will find some comments from folk that have not and have had no drips either but there is rain and there is rain…
In the video you will see that I do all of the seams.
That is not necessary, only the ones on the top need to be done. I do the sides and bottom of the fly because in my mind that strengthen the stitching.

I'm terrible with sticky stuff. I used a small brush and the seams on my poncho and Gatewood Cape are ugly, but they don't leak. I used the sealer on the outside.

I had one tent that the previous owner sealed and it was a surgical job with a syringe. Next time I'm going to take about a week and do one small stretch at a time.

some suggestion or thought i may not be correct.

UV treated Thread + UV treated Seam seal
can be both outside or inside

If the thread is not UV treated better apply the UV treated seam seal outside.

If the seam seal is not UV treated and thread not UV treated i will put it inside, at least when the thread is damaged there still have seam seal there to proven the leaking.

also if apply seam seal outside the outlook many be not that nice too.

I would recommend Seam Grip, that's the best thing I got. Don't use Coleman Seam Sealer it really sucks.
