I do back country snowboarding in Northern Japan, Hakkoda to be exact. January and February are brutal beyond belief, with the weather as unpredictable as a schizophrenic PMSing French poodle. In January and February is when we get most of our four-meter base, and that is not total precipitation but actual accumulation.
I already own a steel gigapower Snow speak stove, which works great for planned overnight trips. What I need is a minimalistic snow-melting stove to put on my emergency pack, for those unplanned overnight trips :)
What is the lowest temperature rating for alcohol stoves, something like Jim Wood’s Super Cat?
What is the lowest temperature rating for Esbit tabs?
Is there a different fuel that I could burn on the alcohol stove that would give me better low temperature performance?
Thanks in advance, your answers might in fact save my life this coming winter, or I guess get me killed as the case may be :)
