I've been using Avon Picardin spray, for deer ticks & mosquitoes. LOVE the stuff…I even think it smells good.

Now that I'm running out, I'm wondering if any of the other companies that are starting to use Picardin are making nice sprays that smell good? I see that Sawyer and Repel make Picardin sprays or liquids now. Anyone tried them?

I think the Avon is still only 10% Picardin, and some of the new ones (Sawyer) are 20%. That might be convincing.

I found tiny spray things of Cutter Advanced on clearance at Walgreens in Ft Lauderdale. Worked great for afternoon dayhiking in the Everglades.

Elizabeth, I'm also a fan of Picaridin. The 20% solutions, I've found, are far more effective that the 10%. The versions put out by Sawyer and Repel seem to be about the same. I've settled on Repel Sportmen's Gear Smart because it's more economical. You can find a six ounce bottle at Target for $6. Before going on a trip I just transfer some into a tiny spray bottle.

Doesn't work in the South east in my trials with it. I exclusively use clothing i pretreated with the sawyer permethrin soak. Now i can watch baby ticks (about the size of the dot a pen makes when you hold it above a piece of paper and drop it-so so so tiny) die in a few seconds. I recently looked down at my convertible pants, and saw about 50 of them crawling up, then i watched them fall off dead…i cannot describe the feeling of joy i had. I will put insects back outside if i find them in my home, im no sadistic bug killer, but man i don't mind watching these truly disgusting disease carrying ticks fall off my pants dead. Before i used it, i tried deet and picardin for years, still found ticks on me all the time, it even ruined a few of my hikes as i had so many tiny ones at certain points i had to quit because they were everywhere and it was hell. I also treat my hammock tree straps, shirts, backpack, and shoes.

I love the stuff. It does not last as long as DEET but I can handle the feeling and smell of it much better. Here is an old review I did of it:

I would like to get some of the newer longer lasting stuff to try.

I am also a big fan of permethrin. In my experience though ticks do not die from it as they know that something is very wrong and let go and roll off. That is the way that ticks leave when they are full (in the case of males that want to travel looking for females) or in the case of females when they are bloated (looking like a grape) and need to go lay eggs.

If they stay on the fabric they will die though. So you may well have been watching stupid ticks. ;-)
