So, I live in Colorado, and am buying my first bag. I'm going back to Nepal next summer, and I need a sleeping bag for the EBC trek – but I'd also like for it to hold up in late fall (or even early winter). I was looking at Montbell, but then decided I'd take the plunge and spend the money on a Valandre Bloody Mary or a Western Mountaineering Antelope. Can you guys suggest which? People have said they've slept in the Bloody Mary below zero, but it's got less fill than the Antelope! Also, I've been looking at Millet sleeping bags, and can't find ANY reviews or ratings. Ideas?

Whichever bag you choose, I would make sure that it fits relatively loose, so that you can layer on insulated clothing inside the bag. This allows you to push the temp range much lower than if you are in a tight bag with no room to wear all your layers. Some of the ultralight bags are very slim fitting. Nice for cutting ounces off of their weight, but not so comfortable to sleep in, and they don't work so well with extra clothing.

Valandre Bloody Mary, Marmot Hydrogen, Western Mountaineering, Feathered Friends, and Montbell all make nice bags. I don't think you'll be disappointed with any of these, provided that the bag fits.

I have one Western Mountaineering bag, the30 F. Megalite, a wider girth summer bag for permitting layering.

And believe me last summer in a high (8,000 ft. ) valley near Olancha Peak on the PCT, I found that extra room very nice when the night temp dropped to 25 F one August night and I had to put on extra clothes to be comfy.

I like WM's great quality, but the other bags mentioned above are all high quality. I believe only Feathered Friends and WM are U.S. made.
