Steven,
Great looking shelter!
Went over to your website and read the info below.
>>I am also working on a carbon fiber strut to run between the poles. The few times I have used the shelter, I have been in an area where there is lots of wood, so finding a natural strut has been easy.<<
Looking at the width of the shelter between the trekking poles has me wondering what kind of pack you are using. I know this sounds strange but bear with me. Does your pack use stays? If it does, what are they made of, are they easily removeable and could they be put to dual use as the strut between your trekking poles?
Don't add something to your pack if you are already carrying something that can become a multi-use item.
If your pack has no stays what about guying out the peak to each side using two more stakes and a little more cordage? Maybe you could add a pole pocket of sorts inside of the shelter at the peak where the trekking pole handles contact your reinforcements. This could make them self locating.
A couple of pieces of 1/2" gros grain ribbon sewn into loops and attached to the interior of the sidewalls at the peak might work.
Just a couple of ideas from your friendly neighborhood hiking "gearhead". :-)
Good luck with your ALL-W.E.T. It looks like a great piece of gear to me.
Party On,
Newton
