Completed segment 1 of Sierra High Route on Aug 6th. No snow issues of consequence – great glissading down lower portion of Frozen Lake Pass. Blazing sun for 6 days, insane skeeters, knee busting talus, an amazing trip – took my breath away figuratively and literally. Pics to follow.

You say no snow of consequence. Is that with or without an ice ax? I'm heading up the route this Sunday and an ax is the last thing I can't decide on bringing.
Thanks for any advice.

Aug 14, 2010 at 9:39 pm #1637525No need for an ice ax. Upper portion of north side of frozen lake pass is all scree/talus, about midway down we were able to glissade all the way down to the lake – around 11:00 am.
hopefully the bugs will have died down by now.
