and yet another contender :)

looking at the alpinlite it appears there isn't much of a bathtub side on the inner tent- might just be the pics though???

I did look quite hard at the double rainbow- lots of nice features, but if I'm going to jump ship I want a little more in the weight savings dept

Just to clarify, the Simblissity Inner Peace actually uses a gabled roof design, with vertical side walls that are guyed out at the roof interface. The guylines simply act to maintain this structure, and it is the structure itself that gives the design more interior space – and less chance of contact with the walls – than a simple floor-to-apex A-frame design.

^ wouldn't it be possible to have short guys/bungis in the corner of a pyramid inner tent to still give you a little more room (less slope)?

Mike,
The spinntex is noisy at first but it does get better with use. My biggest fear with the spinntex is when it does fail it goes out with a bang. So far I have only used my monk tarp in mild weather.

Here is a quote from MLD on the difference between the silnylon speedmid and the spinntex speedmid.
"Spinntex EXP version is lighter weight but not quite as strong as the Silnylon version. Spinntex EXP users will want to be bit more careful in campsite selection in regards to possible small falling branches/cones and blown debris and protect from higher winds."

^ looks like if I really want light weight (and strength) that I should probably pony up for cuben or choose sil and save $ (but gain a few oz)

a little followup:

I chatted w/ Ron and he thought the speedmid might be a better option for two, he also said he would be able to make a slightly larger inner tent to better take advantage of the larger speedmid.

I had pretty much given up on the duomid/duoinner, but made contact w/ a fellow member who is using this combo as a shelter for two (w/ his wife). It turns out we are close to the same height and while not overly roomy he's been very happy w/ the duomid. He does a use an inverted V pitch which helps w/ room- he also uses the mid guys which also make for a little more room as well.

I think I'm going to give that combo (duomid/duoinner) a go, if turns out too small for our needs I figure I can put it up on gearswap w/o too much of a hit and then go to plan B- supermid/custom inner.

Out of curiosity, why the DuoMid Tarp/Inner over the SMD Haven Tarp/Inner? The SMD Haven tarp/inner gets your trekking poles outside the shelter so you don't have to fiddle with the inverted V. It also has 2 doors, 2 vestibules and more headroom. The Haven is 5.5oz heavier and a little cheaper, unless you get the DuoMid tarp in cuben, in which case it's significantly lighter but way more expensive.

The Duomid is a higher performing shelter in wind and snow. By the way, you don't need to do an inverted 'V' to set it up.

Dan- I did take a close look at the haven, look to be very well designed- as you mention it is a little heavier (the inner is also a little heavier as well)-probably in the 6 oz range total, but the fact that I can use the tent four seasons was what ultimately pushed me towards the duomid

the inverted V doesn't appear to be much extra work, w/o the inner (non-bug season) I'd probably picth it w/ just a center pole
