Anyone have any first hand experience with Tyvek Jackets? Breathability, water resistance, etc? Thoughts appreciated.

I just recently got a SportShell. I sprayed it with water from a high pressure nozzle and couldn’t get any moisture to go through. My impression is that the fabric is essentially waterproof, although the jacket’s seams leak a lot. I haven’t had a chance to try it in the rain yet.

Based on how I felt after wearing it during a short run, I’d say that breathability is pretty poor in comparison to typical nylon/polyester windshirt fabrics. It might be as breathable as most waterproof fabrics (Gore-Tex, etc.), but I’ll need to wear it a lot more before I can make that comparison.

I redeemed cereal boxtops years ago to get olympic “Dream Team” Tyvek Jackets. My experience was similar to Joseph’s: fabric waterproof, seams leaked like sieves, breathability non-existant.
