Hi folks,
I’m trying to find a super light knapsack or fanny pack, somthing I can just haul some extra water & snacks in plus maybe a windbreaker. It’s for day hiking while on a backpack trip. Something that just weighs a few ounces if possible. Any thoughts?
Thanks!

I apologize for the redundant response re the Sak Pak. Mr. Plesko just types faster than I do……

I think a Prophet would be too big just for water, snacks and “maybe a windbreaker”. I use the MLD 30 for backpacking… clothes… shelter… food… etc. The 20 is a little smaller… but doesn’t seem much smaller. A lot of it’s reduced volume probably comes from the lack of the big outside pocket. Seems to me there is a market for an ultralite fanny / daypack. I can’t think of any… other than that Luxury Lite bag… which is basically just a sack with handles. I use a commercial day pack for day hikes… I’m carrying so little weight that I don’t really care about the weight of the pack… but these are day hikes from home. An ultralight daypack would be nice for backpacking dayhikes (i.e… when you stay at a camp for an extra night or two).

The P30 is 50% bigger than the P20.

From the MLD websites own P20 notes:
“Great as a sleeping bag stuff sack or summit/day pack.”

For compression the P20 has the following:
Rear bungee lacing loops, V closure roll top or cinch bungee bungee

The recommended load for the P20 is 12 lbs.
Water, snacks, poncho, windbreaker, camera, mossie repel, sun repel, etc,
can quickly add up.

The idea behind the Prophet 20 is that you get leading edge technology that some could figure out multiple uses for:
Sleeping bag stuff sack, summit pack, daypack only, etc.

An additional UL choice is:

See the DayPack/Stuffsack

and besides …
“An ultralight daypack would be nice for backpacking dayhikes
(i.e… when you stay at a camp for an extra night or two).”

The main pack of the P20 is only 5L smaller. If it’s just for snacks and a wind shell… I’d still say it’s too big. That sounds more like the contents of a fanny pack.

As for misc. items like bug spray, etc… for most ultralighters… who repackage these items… your emergency kit and ditty bag would easily fit in your pockets. Not that you would carry them in your pockets… but I’m just sayin’… those items take up virtually no space.

Now if you throw some more clothes in there… it’s gonna fill up.

That said… the pictures on the site are ALL of the P30… which doesn’t help matters. It’s very hard to get a real sense of the size of the P20 without actually seeing it. So maybe it would be a good pack for the original poster. I don’t know.

BTW… I’ve used my P30 for day hikes… but it’s always half empty… and that’s with a fair bit of gear… a vest, jacket, rain gear, extra socks, hat, gloves and a bunch of food.

BTW… I carry water in 2 bottles shock-corded to the shoulder straps… so for me… water doesn’t take up any of my pack volume. Unless I was hiking in very hot / dry conditions without many natural sources on trail… in which case I would carry extra water in the pack.

Anyway… I would really like to see some pics of the P20. Again… looking at the numbers for the main pack… it doesn’t seem that much smaller than the P30.
