I have taken this pad out a few times and have been annoyed with it's tendency to snag on branches when i'm in thicker country. I have helped the situation a bit by moving it to the top of my pack but I think it would be better not to have something hanging off my pack at all.

My next step was to try and pack the Z-Lite inside my pack, creating a frame-like tube, and pack all my gear inside it. Well this pad is definitely not designed for this as it was a pain in the rear to get it in the pack without taking up more space than it's worth.

What do you guys do with your Z-Lite?

rather than folding it in one continuous zigzag stack, I make two stacks, in essence it makes the thing twice as wide, and half as thick. I then use this as my pack frame.

I fold mine so it's one layer thick across the back and sides, and three layers thick across the front of the pack (furthest from my back). I put the pad in a trash compactor bag, slide the whole thing into the pack (framesheet removed) and get it situated, then slide the tent down one side inside the pad and my sleeping bag on the other side. Now everything's fixed in place, with the center of mass fairly close to me, and I can finish packing. My wife has a smaller pack with a trampoline back, so she hangs her z-lite vertically down the front of the pack.
