Last night in my panic to get a Ti-Tri for an upcoming trip I rushed to order the regular Ti-Tri and not the Ti-Tri ULC. Can anyone let me know what the difference between these two products are? From what I can gather it looks like the ULC is made to fit inside your pot (Snow Peak 900) but is this the only difference.

I also ordered the inferno and if anyone has an opinion on the single floor vs the split floor option I would love to hear it.

Thanks in advance, Kevin.

The ability to store inside the pot is the benefit to the ULC.

The disadvantage lies in performance – it's slower than the original.

Todd – Thanks for the feedback, are the two versions roughly the same size/weight?

Not really. The ULC is much smaller. It relies on titanium stakes for my version to hold up the pot. Instead the regular version uses the lip around the edge of the pot to hot it up. I really enjoy my SP 700 and the ULC because I can see the flame. My pluses are:

* I can see the flame
* I can use my one egg wonder on top of it because of the diameter and height allow this.
* It fits in my SP 700 but sticks out about 2mm.
* I can still use my Trangia alcohol burner instead of the regular 12-10 stove so that I can simmer or change the burn heat/time (big plus for me)

However, you may find that it is not as efficient due to the design. IMO, a lot more wind gets in and and swirls the alcohol around a lot in windy situations. But still works awesome. I got the inferno, but have not tried it yet. Burn bans in TX state parks.

Wallace is correct about the size – and the weight difference isn't all that much.

Man….that's what I like to see…..frenzied ordering! :-)

If after listening to the various opinions you would like to move to the ULC, let me know via email and we can work something out. As to another difference, the ULC does not come with a Caddy. To your question about the floors…..the "split" floor is done that way so it will be big enough to cover the entire bottom of the Ti-Tri outer cone but still fit in the caddy. The floor we ship with the Inferno is much easier to work with (single piece of metal to hold your ashes) and we can make it narrower because the bottom of the Inferno is smaller.

Let me know!

Rand,

Thank you for understanding my dilemma (read addiction).

I know there are a lot of Caldera cone users out there, if anyone has an opinion on which version to go with please pass it along. I think I am leaning towards the standard version because I like the idea of the caddy. I usually carry a cup with me, "titanium mugs need asbestos lips" – Chris Townsend, and I figure the caddy is useful keeping the ash off the rest of my gear. I usually have room in my pack so I think weight is more an evil then size, that being said I have never seen the two version side by side so I can't really tell how much bigger the standard version is.

Once again any feedback is appreciated.

I had both. I sold the ULC and kept the regular. I never use the caddy, instead I pack the standard into my MLD 850ml Ti cookpot, and invert a cup over that.

Like the way the pot sits down in the cone instead of on top of it, simple as that. Doesn't really take up much more room than the ULC did (since I still have the cup and a long-handled ti spoon, which goes in the whole kit).

That said, not sure you can go wrong with either one.
