I like to take the freezerbag cooking approach to meal preparation, but on the few trips that I’ve taken I’ve been frustrated by difficulties with measuring the correct amount of water. I’m sure different solutions involve minor tweaks of cookware–marking water bottles with gradations, finding a cookpot with gradations, using an intermediate cup with gradations, etc. I will almost certainly be using a kettle like the MSR Titan or Primus Litech to do the water boiling, because I just like the sense of control and spillproofness that these items give me, as opposed to a regular pot or Ti cup. Anyway, measuring out water for freezerbag cooking. Anybody?

I poured 250ml at a time into my pot and used an ice pick to scribe the water level on the inside. Instant measuring cup, at least for the major units and certainly accurate enough for cooking. I did the same on the inside of my alcohol stoves, in steps of 15ml.
If you can’t see the insides of your kettle well enough to check the water level, you could mark your spork/spoon handle at the appropriate depths in your kettle.
I use a round nosed punch to make dimples in metal cups/pots, 1/2 cup at a time. Like DF, I add 1/2 cup of water at a time, mark the level with a scribe, then punch the dimples, 1, 2, 3, and 4, where 4 equals 2 cups and 1 equals 1/2 cup.
Yeah I like that. Before I was using various intermediates like nalgenes or small lexan measuring cups, but these are extra pieces of equipment that are just too clunky for a job that should be simple. The pot marking is pretty elegant, I like that. Thanks guys. Anybody else?
Buy the “family size” of Countrytime lemonade; drink the contents; use a measuring cup and a magic marker to mark 1/2, 1, 1-1/2, and 2 cup levels; cut the container down to just above the 2 cup mark with a pair of shears.
Its extremely lightweight and has multiple uses:
1. measuring cup
2. drinking cup
3. If using beer can pots, it fits almost perfectly over the can so it takes no space and provides protection to the can/pot
4. (my favorite), use it as a bowl; put your freezer bag inside the cup and roll the edges of the freezer bag over the side. Its a perfect fit for a quart bag and makes it MUCH easier to eat.
Good luck.
