Headnet Options

I have the MLD headnet. It's a good design but if I was buying one again I would opt for one made of mosquito netting instead of noseeum netting. The noseeum netting has pretty small holes so it interferes with your vision a lot more than mosquito netting. I don't like wearing mine unless the bugs are really bad. I think in the BPL store they have some pictures comparing mosquito netting and noseeum netting and the mosquito netting looks much less intrusive.

I waited for months to get one of the headnets. I subscribed to their stock alert, and though I was alerted, the items sold out in one day. A few months later, I was lucky enough to check email very late one night, and saw that they had arrived. I ordered them and when I checked back later that day to see if they were still available for others to purchase, they were gone.

I was lucky this time, but they also have the option to pre-purchase the item, and have it sent to you once they arrive. I did not do this as I was thinking to purchase additional items, or more headnets as gifts. Also, perhaps because I had subscribed, and am a member, the pre-purchase was made available. I do not know if pre-purchase is available to anyone.

I would suggest trying that.

I highly recommend them. Visibility is as it shows in BPL's graphic depiction. Plenty of room inside the hood, and of course, very lightweight.

Assuming you're sleeping out in the open or under a tarp, what does everyone find to be the best way to use one of these at night? Hat with a brim on it underneath the net?

It is also GREAT as a sort of large ditty/carry bag around camp.

I got one at Wal Mart for $2 I think. It is less than 2 oz and does the job.

I did get a BPL (Simblissity) headnet a couple of years ago. It's nice to have a headnet that doesn't block my vision and doesn't ride up (exposing the back of my neck) when I bend over. It's too bad that Simblissity doesn't sell them directly!

I have no solution for you.

I cannot sleep with a brimmed hat on, but will wear the bug net just to keep things out of my nose and mouth.

I got this Sea To Summit headnet at REI. .92oz on my scale minus it’s stuff sack. Does the job when I need it.

I had this problem a couple of weeks ago, and solved it by sleeping in the car :-) My problem was that although the bugs couldn't bite me, their buzzing was keeping me awake. I'm planning to take earplugs on the JMT later this month for this reason (and also because I may sleep once or twice at crowded backpackers' campgrounds).
