If they were standard gutter nails I wouldn't have to buy 5,000 of them :)
1/8" Titanium isn't even close. I would say these would be more on the lines of the heavy duty 14 gram Vargo Ti-Nail except about 1/4 the price.. They also have more holding power due to the larger diameter shaft. All and all these things are pretty awesome despite their rather boring appearance.
I would certainly buy some, but I doubt you can sell enough. That's a lot of product!
To compare the bending resistance of the Al nail stakes with Ti nail stakes you can use the following formula:
Bending Resistance of Al Stake / Bending Resistance of Ti Stake = (Fy,al x d,al x d,al x d,al)/(Fy,ti x d,ti x d,ti x d,ti)
where:
Fy,al is the yield strength of the Al stake, assume 40 ksi
Fy,ti is the yield strength of the Ti stake, assume 128 ksi
d,al is the diameter of the Al stake, assume 1/4"
d,ti is the diameter of the Ti stake, assume 1/8"
If you use the values assumed above, which should be verified, the Al stake will have 2.5 times the bending resistance of the Ti stake.
If the stakes are 7 inches long, the Al stake would weigh 0.54 oz or 15 grams while the Ti stake would weight 0.22 oz or 6 grams.
Nice Formula….The shaft diameter is .215" and the aluminum has a tensile of 65KSI so that equals 2.58 times more bending strength then a 1/8" Ti stake. Cool to know..
Anyway to calculate this against an Easton? If I remember correctly they are .312" Diameter, .016" Wall and are 7075 T-9 with 96 KSI..

I have used 1/4" Al stakes for years, just recently got BPL Ti 1/8" stakes
I've thought the Ti stakes don't bend as much when I pound then into hard soil, but maybe just barely
Since the Ti stake has a smaller diameter, there isn't as much force on it going into the ground. Plus, the Ti stakes just happen to be more pointy than the Al so maybe that makes a difference.
I was thinking the Ti stakes are easier to bend back straight again, maybe by your factor of 2.5
I would buy a dozen or so.
