Been tweaking my summer list, got the base weight down to a hair under 15 lbs. (from 18, I think). I then noticed that 3 lbs. 2 oz. of that is my Gregory Z Pack!
So swapping that for a nifty ULA/GG/SMD/Z-Packs ______ (fill in the blank), I could easily drop another 1.5 lbs. or so! I haven't packed the new list in the Z Pack yet so I don't have a good handle on volume, but what was a dream may now be a "necessity" :-)
Yes, I have homework to do, but thought I'd throw the question out there, based on the weight and these other factors:
-I'm about 6', 220 lbs., and usually take a medium (torso) pack.
-Trips are short, no more than 4 days.
-Water is always far between, so I wind up carrying 2L all the time in a hydration kit. But I like the idea of switching to water Acquafina bottles…
-Winter is a possiblity, but I could use the Z Pack for that.
-Have never used a pad for a frame, but I'd like to use my 72" Neo Air for that. I have some old RidgeRests I could cut down if necessary.
-I use a poncho tarp in the rain over the pack, so waterproofness isn't necesary.
-I prefer a hip/waist belt and sternum strap. I would like hip belt pockets to use with my UnSlack (strap-mounted) pockets.
And I'm not averse to used packs (read: there's a budget issue here).
Thanks!
