I'm looking for a flexible sleep system that uses a quilt along with a down parka and pants as part to get down to say 10-15 degrees.

To give some background on my comfort levels:
With a 20 degree Big Agnes bag (Savory SL), heavyweight long johns (REI MTS heavyweight) – similar to microfleece, and a Icebreaker 200 long sleeve top, I had a comfortable night at 15 degrees. I guess my legs generally run cooler than my core. 5'10 with climber's physique and considering I was plenty comfortable in the BA system, my guess is that a quilt would work well (don't move much?).

Would a true 30 degree quilt (GoLite Ultra 20/JRB Sierra Sniveler/Katabatic Palisades) along with the Montbell Down Inner Pants and a down parka get me there?

What weight down parka should I be looking at? I'm looking at the full range from Montbell Down Inner, to Western Mountaineering Flash, to Alpine Light Down to the FF Hyperion (hooded version).

I'm interested in the responses to this as well. I have a BA horse thief 35 degree bag and I want to try to use the setup that you mentioned using the bag instead of the quilt.

I don't sleep well in a full hooded bag which is why I went with the horse thief. I couldn't convince myself to try the quilt when the BA bag had so much room to move.

When I look at the big agnes bags, the horse thief regular has 10 oz of down and the zirkel rated for 20 degrees only has 3 more oz. With the montbell ul down parka and down inner pants, these would add 4.5 more oz of down to the mix.

The only problem I see with using a quilt in those conditions is that the extra lofty layers make you *wider*, and it may be harder to get the quilt to fully tuck under you and keep the cold at bay. It would certainly work in the Big Agnes set up though. As to which jacket, hard to say. I use the MB ex-light for three season sleeping, and add a Skaha hoody for winter (in a WM POD30 which is much the same as the Big Anges).

What temp range do you get down to with the EX, Pod, and Skaha?

EX, POD, Skaha, UL bivy and MB UL down pants~-7C/15F, as long as the pad is up to it…
