Is Western Mtneering's new hooded flash (Hooded Flash XR Series Jacket) with the upgraded water resistant material worth the extra cost?($40 more) Has a puddle test been done or another review any where on the web?

I did a puddle test and water penetrated the jacket via the seams and wetted the down. The fabric itself is very water resistant. Added features I'm aware of include zippered pockets and an adjustable hood, .5 more ounces of down and the material, which is water resistant, more durable and less shiny. The weight penalty for these features is three ounces. I suppose the added $60 is worth the price if these features are what you're looking for. If your still looking for a down jacket I'd check out the state of the market report by Will Rietveld and Janet Reichl, to see what's out there and what will suit your particular needs. Unfortunately, the WM Flash XR is not reviewed (the WM Flash is) , but the forthcoming article, Multi-Purpose Three-Season Down Jackets, may possibly cover it.
happy hunting…
Gabriel,
Thanks for the info on the puddle test. I decided against the extremely expensive xr proloft jacket and went with a montbell alpine light that I got on sale for $139. I doubt the flash xr is more than twice as good as the jacket I bought.
