I can’t do the no frame/sleeping pad rucksacks, but I really need the a lighter internal frame pack.
Requirements: 2-5 day light internal frame pack:
Size: 2500-3500cu 40-55L
Weight < 40oz
Capacity: 20lbs -forget its there, 25lbs great, 30bls ok 35-45lbs usable
Preferences: Front or back panel loader, axe loops, durable fabric
Candidates right now are:
Mountainsmith Ghost M
$90 33oz 3000ci

Panel loader, reputed to have OK suspension and durable fabrics…
Granite Gear Vapor Trail
$160 32oz 3600cu

Top loading… possibly not so durable… supposedly better suspension than the Ghost while having more room…
Any thoughts on these? What else should I consider?
Ski Touring 1-4 night Pack
Size: 3000-4000cu 50-65L
Weight < 50oz
Capacity: 40lbs comfortably, 55lbs usably
Requirements: Ski carry, axe loops, durable fabric, ability to work as a approach and summit pack (low volume stability)
Preferences: Front or back panel loader, daisy chains
Candidates: ????????????? HELP!
My current packs are:
Lowe Alpine Sirocco II – 70+15L – ~99oz
Osprey Eclipse 42 M – 42L – 72oz
Jansport Polaris 33 – 33L – 46oz
OD Mini – 18L – 14oz
I have no good light packs.
The Sirocco will do ultralong hauls.
The Eclipse is my ski back and is built like a main battle tank, fits and carries like a dream yet is almost too small for multinight summer ski trips without carrying several items externally.
