My low cut Keen Targhee boots (leather, 18 oz) are eVent lined and have performed admirably well during winter trips here in the PNW, where the snow is often soggy. I pair them with Montbell Schoeller fabric gaiters (1.5 oz/pr) for a very functional, lightweight winter system. Don't use them in the summer, but I assume they would be overly hot like Gore-tex boots.

I had a pair of the 1st Keene eVent lined boots & they began to fall apart (outside And inside)on the FIRST weekend slot canyon trek in Utah. I took 'em back to REI. I hope Keenehas improved their eVent boots since then.

Similar experience to Eric, although they lasted about a week longer. I don't think they are using eVent much anymore – although this certainly is not related to the durability.

When eVent first came out, the Wild Things store near me had a display of eVent and Goretex fabrics covering a couple beakers of boiling water. The steam poured up through the eVent, but not the Goretex. Know there's one born every minute, but this really impressed me, and would have an eVent jacket if they were lighter.

The thing with boots, though, is that fit and support have to be by far the first priority, and although there are a number of eVent boots (Hi-tech makes one), fit comes first. Having found that the Keen boots, with a proprietary water barrier named "Keen-dry", fit and support my foot like heaven, the challenge for me also has been to keep them from falling apart.

Reglued the perimeters of the rubber soles to the leather uppers where they were beginning to separate around the edges. Used urethane glue (construction grade, not Gorilla) applied with a beveled popsicle stick. Several applications of Tectron boot spray, followed by Limmer boot grease on the leather, will follow. The problem with the W/B liner socks is that if water gets past the leather or through the fabric, every step creates a pumping action that will quickly penetrate any sock liner.

Keen does make a sturdier all-leather mid called the Klamath, but it is kind of clunky, and weighs almost as much as the latest custom Limmers (2 lbs each).
Maybe it is all a scheme by Keen to get me to buy lots of their boots. It seems to be working.
