I have one and use it with a gramcracker esbit stove. I think it works quite well. I didn't take the handles off the pot, but I do use a bandana as a pot holder to pick up the pot by the handles. I've considered substituting tin foil for the lid, but the lid is very light. Sometimes it's a little hard to get the pot up out of the cone. If you're just pouring water into a freezer bag, it doesn't make any diffenence. The cone rolls up and packs nicely inside the 850 mL pot.
You can save a little bit of weight with the BPL esbit stove, a Ti foil windscreen, and the BPL 900 mL pot with a tin foil lid, but I think the caldera cone is a bit more energy efficient and overall a more stable set up. The 3 legged Esbit stove and the 900 mL pot don't appear to be available at BPL anymore.
