This spring I’ve been using an Arc’teryx Atom LT. It keeps me warm enough, just barely though, but it’s heavy at 12.85oz. I am going to pick up a Mont-Bell U.L.Down Inner Parka on Monday. My question is: Do you think the Mont-Bell U.L.Down Inner Parka is going to be colder or warmer than the Arc’teryx Atom LT? I’m assuming it will be warmer, but not by much. What are your thoughts?
Its a bit warmer but the weight isn't that much more. the atom is a different beast on its own. So amazing for activity in cold weather and pretty decent at keeping you warm. my UL parka is just over 9oz on my scale.
True about it being a different beast. One of the main reasons I want to have something different is that the Arc'teryx doesn't work well with me while sleeping. When I have it in open air it breaths really well, it's the best piece of clothing I've ever used ski touring. But if I have it on while in my Cuben Fiber quilt I’ll sweat regardless of the temperature, especially on the arms. Also the Mont-Bell has an insulated hood which would work great while sleeping.
Won't you soak the down with sweat if you are using a cuben fibre (ie. vapor barrier) quilt? Or am I missing something?
