I am trying to cut my weight down a lot. Looking for Light weight (under a pound) Down jacket that is reasonably priced. Packable would be great too.

Any ideas and recommendations.

Thanks

I have an old Khatmandu down jacket which weighs a pound. I picked it up off the 'bay for ÂŁ10. My recommendation is that you don't get hung up on particular brands or models, and be prepared to restuff the elbows of an older jacket if you can get better quality for your money that way..

If you're talking about 3 season in NE for wearing around camp in the evening and early morning doing chores and whatnot, the Montbell UL Down inner is a good choice. It's very light (my size L is 7.6oz), packs small, and is reasonably priced if you get it on sale.

If you like to build fires or wear it hiking then it's not a good choice because the shell is too fragile.

I currently own the Montbell Down Inner Parka. The price is on pennies over the jacket itself. The hood is just terrific IMO.

Don't go near fires, the fabric is very light.

I have had a few down jackets, and I also have the Montbell Alpine light jacket.

Down Inner Parka = 2.5 oz of down
Alpine Light Down = 4 oz of down

I now mark the Down Inner Parka as my go to jacket. Even at around 8 oz for a small, it is unstoppable in capabilites for me here in Texas. I cannot say in other places, YMMV. But for sure… +1 for MB Down Inner (Parka)

I have heard a lot of good things about the Montbell Inner and Parka. Looking now for a reasonable priced one. Any ideas?

Actually how is the Montbell Thermawrap jacket or their Flatiron Parka?

I love my First Ascent Downlight Sweater. It is a bit over 10 ounces for size small. It is stylish enough to wear in town and technical/light enough to wear in the backcountry. I prefer it over the Patagonia down sweater. I think they are on sale right now as well.

Another vote for MB UL inner…I have the jacket, and really like it.

My medium is 6.6 oz, and perfect for 3-season use. Warmer than my midweight fleece, at half the weight and bulk.

Great garment to add some more range to your sleep system, too.

Got it a month or so ago, for like 135, I don't recall where I got it from though…

I have both the MB Inner parka and the First Ascent sweater and I like them both- I use the Ascent sweater around town because I think it is a bit warmer and the fabric has more comfort to me. I use the MB for hiking because of the weight. I’m glad I have both-
I’d get which ever one you can find that is cheaper.
First Ascent still has some on sale for $99 at DOWNLIGHT® SWEATER

I'll vote for the First Ascent Down Sweater mostly because of the price. It's under $100 for more warmth than the Montbell. It does weigh more though, a large is 12.5 ounces. A large MB is about 8.5oz. They're both great choices, whichever one you go for.

That Crux one BPL reviewed looks pretty bad ass too. If it wasn't so hard to get in North America, I'd consider one of those as an option.

I am looking at getting a Montbell Down Inner Parka. According to the sizing chart on their web site a medium should fit me. But I have a really long torso so my concern is length. Most jackets I try on in a medium are too short, especially down jackets. How is the Down Inner Parka cut? With a 22” torso should I get a medium or do I need to get a large and deal with the extra space?

Justin, I’m 6′ tall and 170lbs. with a regular to large sized torso around 21″ and I purchased the Montbell UL Down Inner Parka in size medium. The length on me is just right. The bottom hem sits an inch or 2 below my waistline so I do have coverage but not much to spare. Here’s a goofy photo of me back in March wearing my parka over a thin BPL Beartooth Hoody:

Finally crawled outta my bivy

I just found a Montbell Down Inner Parka for $132.25 Thinking about getting it; it's 7.4oz and from what I have read it's warm and awesome. Buying it tomorrow at 12 noon in the North East.

Any Opinions!!!!!!!!

I'm doing the same thing Monday, for $132.25, before noon, in the Pacific North West.

I think were looking at the same site. Leave me a medium one in blue if you could.

they fit on the small side. I think, I'm 5'11 and 185 and I wear a large for my shoulders and arm length. Ihave gorrillaitis though.
