I use a lextan spoon (with a sawed off hadle of course!). Because Sporks are the deadly enemy of freezer bags, and I can eat every thing with a spoon.

This won't help those that abhor plastic, but I like the MSR folding utensils. Much easier to pack into the cook-kit, but have a handle long enough to reach into freezer bags. One does have to wipe carefully around the hinge point, depending on what has been on the menu, but they come apart easily. They come in fork, spoon, or spork, so suited to whatever style of cuisine you choose.

I use the more expensive picnic type plastic – I prefer a simple spoon. Have been using the same one for a couple of years now.

I loved my Ti-spork before i recently lost it :(. So I'll be in the market for some else soon. Unsure whether to go for lexan or Ti spoon/spork.

On other note chopsticks are awesome :D

“Lexan is bogus due to toxicity issues…”

GSI Outdoors rehydrate spoon- BPA free

Rehydrate your MH meals and eat BPA worry free.

It’s what I now carry in my cook kit.

It is amazing how many of the GSI ReHydrate spoons we have sold over the years. They are cheap ($2), light and don't scratch pans. For $2 you really cannot go wrong!

"Just thought of something else. Lexan is bogus due to toxicity issues, unless you want extra fingers on your hands and toes on your feet."

And when you're not looking, they'll pull the stakes out of your guy lines, put rocks in that pocket you never check, and have your resupply box routed two towns up the trail. Using poles with twist locks? Oh, you're screwed.

[On Edit] By the way, I go for lexan. Used to just take a lexan spoon, but now I'm playing with some little blue spork thing from Walmart (4 for $3, and ridiculously light).

I'm liking my new REI folding Ti spork, which fits in my Evernew 400ml Ti mug with a Ti Esbit wing stove and aluminum foil windscreen and lid, for a 3.5oz/95g kitchen.

The spork is 0.53oz/15g, 6.25"/16cm long extended and 3.75"/95mm folded. http://www.rei.com/product/751779/rei-ti-ware-folding-spork

I have the Light My Fire Ti model and it works fine, but it is a pain to pack and sharp enough to do damage. Wrapped in a bandanda or similar does the trick.

The Lexan sporks work fine and are easy on the budget.

The freebies break and having your eating utensil break when you have the ramen on the way to your lips at the end of a long trail day is *not* fun. You could hear me cuss from the trailhead. Whittled chopsticks time!
