For those interested: I inquired about obtaining a (4-oz. I believe?) Bushbuddy downdraft gassifier woodstove like Ryan Jordan is carrying on his Alaska 1000 trek. Response below.

Brian

Hello Brian,
An ultralightweight stove similar to what I made for Ryan Jordan is in development but is not ready for production yet. It is thin guage stainless steel as is Ryan’s stove. I can let you know when it is available.
Thanks for your interest.

Fritz

Subject: titanium Bushbuddy?

Hi Mr. Handel,

Recently, Ryan Jordan has posted to his blog (www.arctic1000.com) that you made a custom Titanium Bushbuddy for him to take on his backpacking trip across Alaska.

Do you have any plans to mass-produce this stove? Would you be willing to sell titanium versions to interested customers? I believe that there are a lot of lightweight backpacking enthusiasts out there who would be interested in such a product.

Any information would be much appreciated!

Thanks,
Brian

I saw the vague pictures on Arctic1000.com… looks great but what I’m waiting for is feedback from Ryan about performance in “the ultimate test.”

He’s trusting his life to it in a way; I’ll be interested to read about how it performed under those conditions and whether Ryan considers the ultralight version to be bulletproof to his standards.

Although on second thought… anything that a guy like that carries for 600 miles through Alaska is probably the certified gold standard already.

peter has one of Mr. Handel’s latest efforts. it is beautifully constructed and weighs 6.4oz. while it has of yet to be taken up north, i have lit it off at home a few times, and in my having worn out some few zip stoves experience, it burns quite well. even zip-lock bags seemed to leave no residue. whether it is as easy to light in the field as a zip stove remains to be seen. it is 4″ tall and 4-1/2″ dia.
cheers,
peter v.

Could you please ask “Peter” if he can take some pictures for us, if that is not possible, send it to me and I’ll do it ( in the name of science)
