Recommendations for socks for hiking in warm, wet conditions? (Eg: the Pacific Northwest or the Northeast (NY – VA) in the summer)

Digging through the forums, I could find these two recommendations:

SmartWool Adrenalines
Wrightsock

in general posts about socks.

I already own several pairs of mid-weight merino by SmartWool and don't think these are good for warm wet conditions (too warm and don't dry fast enough). The Darn Tough stuff sounds like SmartWool..

My biggest priority is to avoid blisters from the moisture.

Any tips would be welcome!

PS: Recommendations on length of sock would be welcome too.. I'd have thought tall ones so it doesn't get wet inside as quickly but that doesn't make too much sense and might be too warm..

I simply wear light hiking socks, even liners. Wool. Generally Smartwool or Icebreaker. But I'm going to try the Point6 someone mentioned on another thread. Above the ankle is always my preference.

I only wear liner socks. Even they take a while to dry with lightweight trail running shoes, but that's about as thin as you can go unless you hike in pantyhose.

don't your feet blister if you hike with wet liner socks that do not dry?

i think i've had blisters from 20 mins of downhill hiking with damp socks…

Try Defeet Wooleators. Same as the Aireators but made of merino. They're the thinnest merino socks I've been able to find anywhere, and super comfy. And they never smell!

Everyone's different, of course, but I've hiked all day with wet feet and no blisters. On my most recent trip, a 3-day, 85-mile hike in PA, my feet were pretty much wet all day for all three days, and not a single blister. I did put on dry socks each morning, but they were wet within an hour each day. FWIW.

For me, blisters are a tough thing to nail down. I can't find a pattern to what causes them, and they're usually in a different spot. However, since I've switched to liners and toe socks, and a pair of looser fitting shoes, the blisters have minimized.

I've found the smartwool adrenaline short socks thinner and cooler if that helps. Toe socks are worth a try too.

The smartest socks around :) I like my Smartwool PhD Light hikers. I just did a hike up near the Mogollon Rim and it was warm with some creek crossings. the combo of my Smartwoll PhD's and Inov8 Flyroc 310's dried out very quickly.

I think I'm in the minority because I always wear the same socks no matter the temp/weather. I wear the thickest ones a manufacturer makes. I've sized my shoes for that and my feet are wet from sweat within 5 minutes of starting anyway(no matter the sock). Never got a blister since starting this. I think the key for me was matching sock thickness to shoe size.

another vote for the smartwool adrenaline. I wear them most of the summer. They wick really well, and I haven't had a blister yet.
