Hey everyone!
I am working on a 16 day trip in the Sierras later this summer for two people. I am working on my food and was hoping to get some tips. I am not doing a food drop so I need to keep it light an nutritionally balanced. I am trying to keep my food simple..here is what I am thinking so far:Breakfast:
oatmeal with fiber
granola
dried berries
instant coffee/ teaLunch:
dried humus
corn tortillas
2 packs of tuna
2 packs chicken
1 dried salami
1 hard cheese wedgeDinner:
Quinua ~2cuos
Cous-cous~2 cups
Polenta~2cups
dried re-fried back beans~3cups
dried re-friend pinto bean ~ 3 cups
instant mac and cheese
assorted seasonings
Tortillas
Textured soy protein to supplement each meal
hot cocoSnacks:
Jerkey
trail mix
protien bars
fiber bars
cliff bars
dried fruit
peanut m&msand of course I will be doing fishing so with some luck ill be supplementing alot o my dinner with fresh trout.
This is just a rough list I am working with. But it seems to have a good balance of protein, calories, fat and fiber.
What do you think?
Tips? ideas?Thanks!
Apr 19, 2010 at 9:40 pm #1599858I always like to add some extra vegetables, just to keep the dieticians off my back.
The lightest source that I've found is called "Just Veggies" which has a net weight of 4 ounces. Its label says that it is equivalent to 1-1/4 lbs. of fresh vegetables. For a long trip, I would add one fresh carrot.

Apr 19, 2010 at 9:41 pm #1599859I would pack some olive oil just to mix in with anything you have listed above. It is about as calorie rich as it gets and can be added in small amounts to a ton of meals for some extra kick. I'd suggest bringing a bottle of it and adding as much as you want.

so some veggies and olive oil. check and checkDo you think that food will be light enough? and be sufficient enough to get decent nutrition?
Apr 19, 2010 at 9:50 pm #1599865If I was packing food for myself and two friends, I know that they would kill me if I didn't have along a small plastic jar or tube of peanut butter. Even when somebody is too sick to eat, they can eat peanut butter on something.
