So based on the snowfall this year, what is the season shaping up to look like?

Is it safe to say that it might be a low snow year unless we have late storms like last year?

Heading out on JMT on August 7th and wondering if there will be any snow left.

Nate, this year is a high snow year. Most likely you will have patches of snow on north facing slopes above treeline. I think most of the major highways going into the Sierra's (120, 4, 108) won't open until at least the 4th of July. You should have miles of snow free trail in Aug.

I would agree partly with Ken's prediction, but maybe not quite that severe. I would expect the high road passes to open 10 days earlier, and there will be some big snow piles on the trail passes. However, by late July there will be muddy paths through everything. By August, don't sweat it.

They start plowing Tioga Rd on April 15. Road being open is not necessarily reflective of trail conditions. Tioga generally opens last week of May, sometimes a week or two later. The latest it's ever opened was July 1 – most often it's open early June – late May.

88 is open with some delays due to roadwork. 108 is closed at the usual place, the gate a few miles up the road past Pinecrest/Strawberry.

It's supposed to snow over the next few days in Yosemite, by the way.
