Anyone have a chance to try out the new Exped Air Pillow? Looks pretty comfy and at 3oz might be worth the weight for a side sleeper like me. I'm curious how it compares to the Montbell.

I’m not that big a fan of air pillows. Never could get used to them. I use a Climashield XP pillow from Arrowhead Equipment. It’s about cozy and comfortable as all get out, and only weighs 5 oz! And I’m a tosser and turner, works fine both on my back and on my side. FWIW. Worth the extra 2 oz.
I just ordered one in this week and have been using it some. So far it is my favorite pillow. I did opt for the model with foam pellets in it, instead of just air.
I like the ability to blow these up with air because they do not compress like a non-air pillow. the foam pellets give it some more cushion too.
It is ergonically shaped and way comfortable. Fits nicely inside of the hood of my sleeping bag.
I also own the Montbell pillow, the Sea-to-summit pillow, the Quixote Designs Down pillow, etc.
This Exped is my favorite so far.
Thanks for the comparison, thats exactly what I was hoping for. Didn't know about the foam version, looks like the foam adds 2 oz. Do you think the foam significantly improves the comfort of the pillow? (I'm considering ordering one)
I've got the foam version too, it's brilliant – best pillow I've used. You don't have to inflate it fully and the foam still gives support. I am a side sleeper and have found most air pillows too high, this has a higher neck support and a lower area for your head. Definitely worth the couple of extra ounces to me.

I got the foam version because it seems to cushion or soften the feel of air pillows, at least for me anyway. I notice a difference over my Monbell pillow, which is just an air-filled pillow only.
At my age, comfort ranks tops, gram counting is secondary.
Hmmmmm. Never tried an air pillow with foam. Have to give it a try!
Charles,
Check out this link. You can have both comfort and gram counting too.
I have one of Bender's 1.3 oz. pillows that I made a pillowcase for out of silnylon and polyester material. The case is removeable and gives me the option of being able to add or remove foam. The pillowcase added .7 oz. bringing the total weight of the pillow and case up to whopping 2.0 oz.
The polyester surface gives the pillow a warmer and softer texture. I have been able to adjust the comfort and support by inflating the pillow to somewhere between 75% and 85% of full volume. I've included the link below to the pictures and the post of my project if you're interested.

I tried this pillow for a little while before switching to my Kookabay pillow, mainly for the weight savings. I think the main reason it was comfortable to me, is that the fabric seems to have a little stretch to it, so it's not like a metallic balloon, but a rubber balloon.
(Bender, if you could find some light, heat-sealable, stretchy fabric, that would be great for making your pillows out of…)
I like it. It's most comfortable inflated around 50%, which is about one breath I think. The fabric is soft and stretchy, and it doesn't need a cover. The different profiles on each end are useful.
What thickness does it inflate to?
"What thickness does it inflate to?"
inflated 15 x 10.6 x 4.3 inches
packs down to 2.2 x 4.7 inches
