"Weak" ankles can be improved with training in propriopercetion and balance, but IMHO this is best done at home on a wobble board, etc…Until you achieve this on a daily basis, I would not suggest you ditch your mid-high tops in the field, as an injury there could have dire consequences. The higher top provides your brain with needed feedback that is often lacking due to injuries. You just need to 'wean' yourself off of this feedback.
