Anyone know if denatured alcohol for my alcohol stove is readily available in the Alps area?
I will be traveling from the US to Europe to do the Tour Du Mont Blanc through France, Italy and Switzerland next month and I’m wondering if my alcohol stove will work for me. Do they sell Esbit there? Don’t have an Esbit “stove” but could buy one or just use rocks I guess if alcohol isn’t an option.

Yes, alcohol feul is available but is pricey compared to other countries.

1) Esbit is a Swiss product and available everywhere in Europe.
2) You don’t need an Esbit stove. They suck. Just snip out a 1.5×10 inch strip of expanded aluminum gutter screen, and roll it into a ring. Maybe use wire twists to keep it together or not. Doesn’t really matter. A circle of heavy foil to hold the Esbit tablet completes the 1/2 ounce stove’.

On the TMB, Chamonix is the place to get the alcohol – the supermarkets in town should have the stuff. You can also get MSR canisters in the numerous outfitters there.
