So I was in Target today and noticed these Scotch Brite Sponge Cloths and thought, "I wonder how they'd compare to my MSR Packtowel
After some initial shower testing, I think these might be worth a few field tests.
They're about 7×8 inches and weigh around an ounce. There are two in a pack and the weights differ between these: one is 3/4 ounce, and the other is 1.5 ounces. Grab bag, I guess.
Why consider these? Well, when you're using a packtowel, the surface that touches your skin is not much bigger than your hand, and the towel loses its shape and bunches up. With these, they keep their shape and are really absorbent.
I'm doing some drying time tests right now. The benefit I see is a smaller size, same weight, and similar/better performance. I think they'll dry much faster in an outside mesh pocket of your pack than a bunched up towel.
I know, its a friggin' sponge. But where else than BPL would I get excited about this?
