I have used the Golite Hex for a few years and really like it’s weatherproofness…However, to “lighten up”, I am looking at the Hut 2. I would like some Hut 2 owner’s feedback.
Thanks.

I have the Hut 1. I’ve only used it a couple of times and never in bad weather. It’s works fine. I bought it because it was one of few that gives 360° protection from rain. I camp mostly in the high Sierra and it is hard enough to find a spot where you can plant all the required stakes for a tarp tent without having to also worry about the direction the wind is coming from. But it is everything it clams to be.

That being said I am going back to a freestanding tent because of the problems of finding a good site and the mosquitoes. Also, I decided that I really don’t like carrying two hiking staffs. I feel like some sort of mechanical man. I only want to carry one for creek crossing such. One is enough for the Hut 1 with a little improvisation, but I like to carry one for day hikes. Once you add up a ground cloth, superlight bivy sack, a mosquito net and the second staff the weight savings isn’t all that great.

My dogs will sure miss being able to crawl in with me though. I’m looking at the Evolution 1EX with its two vestibules so each dog can have his/her own area. You know who runs my life.
