It’s been a few years since I bought a new tent, and I’m now looking to replace our Tarptent double rainbow.

I’m looking at the Stratospire 2 LI.  Does anyone have any experience with this tent? It’s for my wife and I.  We’re pretty average sized, and are primarily using a tent above tree line in the North Cascades. The Stratospire seems appealing for it’s seeming wind resistance, large vestibules, and double wall is nice in our area. I’ve also considered something like a ZPacks Duplex/Triplex, but they don’t appear to be as storm-worthy. Is that a fair assumption?

I have a Strat Li.

Above treeline?  I would not have serious concerns unless the site was very exposed or very high…but I’ve not been in your specific area so I don’t know exactly how well it will fare in normal conditions, there.  I would be carrying 8″ to 10″ stakes and long guy lines, regardless.

Vestibules: they’re decent.  Not as much headroom as you might expect, and due to the slope of the walls the distal point of the zippers is very far away.  They’ll hold a 40L-ish pack and some shoes with no problem on each side; more than that is asking a lot.  Likewise, they’ll hold a 40-lb. dog (and some shoes).

The double walls are nice.  Condensation is minimal even in humid conditions.

Size-wise, two people will be perfectly fine… provided that they are young and/or very much in love.

Thanks, Bonzo. That’s good feedback. I wish that the Stratospire was a little wider, but it seems like a trade off between larger vestibules in the Strat vs more floor space in the Double Rainbow.

The vestibules don’t net an excessive deal of storage space, by my thinking; if you subtract about eight or ten inches along the outer edges of the triangles, you’ll have a better idea of the usable area.  Beyond that, and your gear is in the splash zone.

If you get super-serious about the Li, I can ship you mine for a test-run.  All the theorizing in the world can be shorted by ten minutes of trial.  Might save you some time and money.
