Hi, Mike Cecot-Scherer here, owner of TheTentLab and maker of the Deuce of Spades™

It’s SECONDS DEAL TIME! Let your friends know. They won’t last long!

I have two kinds: regular weight cosmetic seconds and TOO LIGHT out-of-spec ones. You heard right, I’m tightening up my specs and now I have a bunch that are “too lightweight” – weighing from 14 to 15 grams (and the new spec is 15 to 16.5 grams).

The reason I raised my minimum weight is that, while most people would probably want lighter, there are others that might feel that thinner ones are too flexible, that they’re flimsy – which they are NOT. The 7075-T6 alloy they’re made from makes even the flexible ones really strong and tough. But I don’t get to tell every customer that, so thicker they shall be. Also, on my website I make a big deal about getting the handle comfort tradeoff just right, thinner starts to be harder on the hands. So I’ve kind of set a standard there too. So from here on out, the lighter and thinner Deuces are only going to be sold to people that I get to tell them about the increased flexibility and slightly less comfortable handling. You perhaps?

GET ‘EM WHILE YOU CAN!

Fixed an “out of stock” warning issue. If you got that, please try again.

Thanks,

Awesome deal and perfect timing since I just lost mine!

Still have plenty.

Cosmetic seconds are all light blue – probably the hardest color to lose in all seasons – and the reason they’re seconds is just that the color is a little too light. Otherwise they would have been great Bright Blue Deuces.

Lighter seconds are barely more flexible than full weight 1sts. You would have to have both in your hand to tell the difference. That said, if you tell me in the PayPal “note to seller “section, that you want one from the light end or the heavy end of the scale, I’m happy to accommodate you.

Thanks, Mike

Thanks!  Fast shipping and hopefully I won’t lose this one!  14.8 is a perfect weight for my trowel/camp spoon :)

I hear you Marc-André. Our postal system changed their rates about a year ago. Now everything up to 8 oz (226g) is the same postage – ridiculous! It really clobbered my overseas sales (most of which were just one ounce).

Take heart, MEC just became a dealer.

Best, Mike

My trowel came in on Monday. It’s all packed and ready to go for my Thru hike next week. Thanks!

We still have plenty of seconds…

And while I have you: Poll time! We’re being shooed off our Deuce of Spades name by the owner of “King of Spades” who makes garden and farm products. So what do you think of these names:

The Deuce

Das Deuce

The Ace of Deuce

The Spade of Deuce

new one: Little Deuce Scoop (thanks annapurna!)

Maybe see how much it is to fight it and odds of winning? “Spade” is the only part of the name you have in common with HRH of Spades and it is the literal, dictionary name for what you manufacture.

Just added some ORANGE cosmetic seconds. The laser gave the logos a dark look (they’re supposed to be white).

My oh my. A small batch of Light Green came in that’s too different from our standard color. It’s kind of a nice color but…2nds they are.
