Suggestions welcome. The wife and I are currently using what I'm guessing is called a thermal fleece by the Rocky company. We got them at walmart. They don't seem to heavy and are very warm, but are bulky (fleece obviously doesn't compress very well).

Looking for something with similar thermal properties (i.e. just as warm) but with less bulk and, perhaps, less weight.

Thanks!

I've been using the Eddie Bauer's First Ascent merino wool thermals for a while now and I really like them. Being a tall guy with long arms and legs I also appreciate that they offer "tall" sizes in almost everything.

They also make a 1/4 zip top in merino wool that is amazing!

Look online at Cabela's several models of polyester long johns. I've had 2 pair of Thermastat underwear for the past TEN years and they are still in excellent condition after Nordic patrolling, alpine patrolling, hunting and winter camping.

I'm getting a pair of their black long johns with the grid fleece lining. I forget the model name.

I've been using Patagonia Capilene forever, and I really like the stuff, but it's not the lightest stuff around. Tops and bottoms (zip top) total in at almost 17 ounces. What's a better choice?
