Heading up to Vermont this weekend. Looking to get out for some snowshoeing/hiking around the Waterbury/Camels Hump area.
Has anyone been up that way recently? Curious as to what I should expect to encounter on the ground at lower and higher elevations. Thanks!
Mar 5, 2010 at 5:51 am #1582195I was up on the hump last month and despite low snow in the valleys it was deep up high. After our dumping of wet snow followed by some rain I would expect lots of refrozen heavy snow that should warm up saturaday with an expected high of 40F. You should be good with descent snowshoes all the way to the summit and have plenty of coverage even low. Have fun.

Edit: Great fun up in VT. Here's what we experienced on Camels Hump. No problem hiking 95% of the way up on packed trail. We donned our snowshoes for the final summit push just for the extra traction. Microspikes would have been ideal.
