I’m considering this stove after reading that my Snow Peak GigaPower stove probably won’t do too well if I need to use it in windy conditions (such as in Channel Islands NP, where I’m going in a couple weeks). Has anyone here used one, and would you recommend it? Thanks in advance.

In my experience the problem with the Giga is that its too tall for the most wind screens epsecially with a larger capacity canister. Before buying a new stove you might try different wind screen configurations. (much cheaper option)I have used a friend’s windpro a couple times; it seems like a great stove. If you do decide to replace your giga I think it would be a good way to go.

I’ve been using the windpro for about 1 1/2 years now and really like it. I’ve been primarily using it in the Alps and even though the wind doesn’t get to bad it has performed great. I also use it on family car camping trips and have been really impressed with its stability and strength. For example, I’ve used my old cast iron frying pan and my medium sized dutch oven on it with no promblem. I definately would recomend this stove.

I have a wind pro that I like, but it is a little heavy for simple cooking(boiling water). It is excellent for more elaborate cooking.
For an effective, but light windscreen for your giga power go to jwbasecamp.com. It looks like it would work fine for taller stoves, probably better than the factory unit.
