Climbing Mt Townsend – first photo – it's OK.
.

Part way up Mt Townsend – what's that strange pink glow in the sky?
.

Wind-eroded overhang – where has the sky gone???
.

Overhangs and boulders – pink sky AND aberrations in the saved file.
Inspection revealed that the red channel becomes pretty-much saturated under certain conditions. Curiously, Sue's blue top was largely exempt, but the brighter sky … Oh Dear.
No, this was not totally out of the blue (pun): the camera had been suspect for a few months now, and on a couple of recent trips the pink had started to show up slightly.
I now have a new Canon G11. Different memory cards, sigh. No more replaceable e2 lithium batteries, sigh. But nice …

Mesa Verde on peyote?
Very sorry for your loss, Roger [sniff]. You should keep it around for Easter bunny photos.
Enjoy the G11. The other day I was hoisting one in the store in comparison with the GF1 and while I know which way I'd have gone, the Canon is nicely finished and has a great feature set.
Cheers,
Rick
Roger,
How do you like your G11? That's what I use and I think it does a pretty good job. I have yet to really stretch her legs though.
Roger,
I have the mighty Canon A75 which did something similar a few years ago:

Here is the shot right before, which happened to be on the maiden voyage for my new contrail:

Turns out there is faulty wiring to the CCD in many older Canon models, which is aggravated by high heat/humidity. If this is the case your camera is under recall and Canon will fix it for free, incl. shipping, as they did for me (at least it's free if you live in the US…):

Best of luck,

Hi Dan
I Love You!
I looked up the Advisory Notice, and it seemed to be possibly applicable. So I contacted Canon Australia (where I live) and described the symptoms. The techie there gave a very laconic 'Yep' reply and told me to send it in.
If it turns out to be true that they can fix it (for free no less), my eternal thanks!
Oh well, even if they can't fix it, my thanks still!
Cheers
Hi Rick and Juston
We have enough trouble with rabbits here in Oz … :-)
But Dan has suggested a possible cure, so I will see ASAP.
The G11? Well, it FEELS good. The A95 felt a little plastic in places (doors etc), but the G11 feels solid. That's good. Less good is the fact that the G11 uses SD cards while the A95 uses CF cards – gigabytes of memory wasted? And the G11 uses a custom lithium battery with a custom mains charger … mumble.
I have spent a couple of hours going through the manual with the camera in my hand – makes me wish we were back with basic SLRs like my old Olympus OM-2 … the software complexities the marketing guys have jammed in are excessive. Do I need them all? Unlikely – I never even used half the strange features in the A95!
I have only take a couple of pics so far. But an indoors one came out very nicely, so here's hoping.
I will report on Canon's response. Could be better than Toyota's maybe … ?
Cheers
My wife got a camera and put it in her purse and put it on the ground. Somebody (I don't know who- but it wasn't me;)) stepped on it. The LCD screen cracked in half. Canon fixed it for free no questions asked!
Good luck
I also had an A75 with bad sensor fixed for free (well past warranty).
Well, I sent my A95 in to Canon. Yesterday I get a slightly obscure letter back saying that the camera was being fixed, so I rang them.
The chip has been replaced – no charge.
The camera will go through QA for 2 days – no charge.
The camera will then be sent back, no charge.
This is for a camera I bought in 2004. UNREAL! Japanese quality.

That was a problem with a particular Sony made CCD. (from memory…) the fault was triggered by high humidity or contact with water.
Anyway your G11 is something else.
Franco
> Anyway your G11 is something else.
Yeah. I have done some indoor product photography with it so far, and am impressed. I'll try it on a decent trip soon.
Cheers
Roger,
That's awesome! I needed to hear a positive customer service story today.
BTW, I'm still using my Canon A75. To be honest I wish it WOULD break so I could justify an upgrade :)

Received in excellent condition, tested, and fully restored.
I am most enormously impressed by this level of support from Canon. I mean, the camera is 6 years old! The only problem is that I now have a G11 which I didn't need to buy … :-)
Well, no, I am NOT going to sell it! :-)
Cheers
