Hi All,
Right now I have a few combinations to cover all the seasons and a number of people, but I am in the process of trying to simplify. My goal is to come up with one system that will:
– Work for both summer and winter sleeping bags
– Work with 1-2+ people
– Provide the flexibility and openness of a tarp with enough rain/light snow protection
– Have more interior height to sit up (versus a cat tarp)
– Stay under 20oz or so
What I've come up with is:
– Raven bivy (w/netting) – 7.5 oz (ea)
– MLD Trailstar (hopefully Ron will make me one in spinntex) – 13 oz
Has anyone had any experience with the trailstar in the winter? Or using the raven with larger sleeping bags? Can you think of any good alternatives to the above?
The other option is to just keep my ptarmigan bivy for the summer/bugs, and use a groundsheet for the winter – but I still need to find a larger ground sheet than the GG polycro that is more packable than tyvek – I roll around too much for that piddly little thing. Any ideas?
