I am trying to find a mitten that consists only of a water-proof shell. Of course light weight is extremely important.

I believe that it was Outdoor Research that use to make one out of Goretex years ago but I can’t find anything similar now.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

REI Taped Mitt.

Full featured, so ~5oz for the pair, IIRC. I can weigh them later today when I’m home, if you want.

You can remove some of the “features” to save weight, but then you loose some functionality – like either cinching wrist tighter (could replace with a lighter method), or the gauntlets closed (though the mitts two single-handed pulls per mitt is perhaps overkill and could be replaced with a lighter alternative). You could also remove the “kiddie” keeper straps if you desire – these cinch to your wrist or forearms and permit you to pull a mitt off and have it dangle from your forearm or wrist while you perform some operation that requires more dexterity than the mitt provides and you won’t drop/lose your mitt.

Nice mitts. I like them.

If you can find a pair of the OR Talus mitts, these are great mittens. Not sure how much they weigh, but I’d guess about 3oz. These are a good compromise between weight and durability. I use them for hiking as well as winter stuff. They’ve held up well to ice axe use and poles because they have a heavier nylon palm. I also have a pair of snowline mitts, which are lousy as they are thick and lined, which makes them take forever to dry out. STP has the talus in small, or maybe try ebay, as they are discontinued.
