Tell me what you make with Orzo…

(I like pasta, but gotta fit as much as I can in a bear canister; this looks compact.)

It is good and compact – treat it like rice really. (Just with way better protein than rice! Yay!)

I like cooking it with flavoring, it soaks it up.

Very good in soups as well.

I use a lot of it, the shape packs well in bear canisters. See Israeli couscous too for another easy to pack tiny pasta.

Orzo makes terrific trail salads. It can also be used just like any other pasta or added to soups.

I love orzo and like the compactness too. How long does that take to cook on the trail?

Depends on the brand but usually what I have around the house is 7 to 10 minutes. You can of course always just boil it for 5 minutes, then let it finish steeping for another 5 minutes with the pot in a pot cozy. Saves a lot of fuel that way!

Thanks Sarah, I'll give that a try on our next trip.
