The Outsak UL and UL Micro have been field tested and are ready to go. At 4.1 and 3.2 Oz and made of stainless steel wire mesh, they are the toughest Ultra Lightweight storage bags on the market. We have received info from our field testers that they are easier to use than other available options.

We have photos of the Ousak UL repelling raccoons. Check out our blog at http://www.outsak.blogspot.com to see the pictures.

Our website has the complete specs.

I want to thank the field test group. Most of them are active members of this forum and they did a wonderful job of testing our Outsak UL.

Would Ursack be considered a competitor as well?

(Just curious, I'm new here and still learning — I haven't completed the transition to lightweight backpacker yet ;))

Urack Minor would. Their site lists it as 8" dia, 13" tall, 650 cu in, 2.7 oz, not bear resistant.

Since all of the stainless steel mesh bag products referenced above are heavier than the Ursack Minor, is there a reason to prefer one of them (other than that you can see through them)?

Rakesh,

Good question.

The UrScack would not be considered a cmpetitor, though I do believe that the UrSack company has a new product that is designed to deal with the sharp teeth of smaller creatures.

Anyway, the UrSack is designed to deal with bears, but the fabric they use is vulnerable to the sharp, small teeth of critters that the Outsak, Ratsack, and Grubsack are designed to handle.

My Ratsack is in the range of 6.0 oz, so the new OutsackUL and UL Micro are welcome options.

Hope this helps and welcome to the wacky world of light weight backpacking!

Feel free to ask questions to your hearts content here.

When I started out going light a few years ago, everyone here was quite generous with giving me great feedback and advice.

Tony,

That would be the Ursack Minor. 2.7 oz. Same size as the Ursack.

Thanks!

I just got the lightweight backpacking book from here, and I'm gradually going through it… I'm sure I'll have more questions when I figure out what to ask :)

I do have a GrubPack that I like very much. I have read about and anticipated the new Outsak UL. I didn't realize they were going to be so small. It seems the weight reduction is due to size reduction. I'm sure it's a fine product but they aren't even close to the capacity of the standard Grubpack, Outsak, Ratsack, etc. Perhaps they are meant for 1-2 night outings.
