My beloved Versa Smartwool T's have just about died. I've got about 3-4 years of everyday wear out of them so I'm happy.

What do you guys wear? Favorite brands? I need to replace 4 or 5 of them so I'm happy to look at anything you guys recommend.

I have a couple of Smartwools, a couple 190 weight Icebreakers, a couple Icebreaker Beast, and two Icebreaker Tech T Light T-shirts.

The Tech T Light (140 gram/square meter fabric) are my favorite for work undershirt, winter first layer, or summer T-shirt. One is 2-1/2 years old, gets worn and machine washed at least once a weak and looks exactly like the second one I just bought.

The 140 weight fabric is a tighter knit than my similar weight Smartwool shirts and has held up much better, as well as being more modest for city wear. (less nipple exposure)

I also like the Icebreaker 190 or 200 weight, but the 140 is a bit more versatile. I don't really like the "Beast" fabric even though it's a similar weight to the 190.

For care my Merino shirts go in a mesh "lingerie" bag and thrown in the washer with a regular cold load. Then they dry folded over a hanger.

Out of my personal experiences, I have preferred backcountry.com's house brand over merino from icebreaker or smartwool smartwool. Its a lightweight shirt, about 140 weight. Perfect non restricting fit. I like it so much that I have their white one to wear as an under shirt for business work clothes for Boston Winters. However, it looks like they are discontinuing them. If you're a medium, this would be great for u. Very very reasonably priced.

the colors are alot more subdued in real life. i.e. the brick doesnt look red in person, but actually looks like the color of an redder adobe brick. Sizing is spot on for an athletic fit. I have lean/athletic build, and prefer the fit of the backcountry shirts over the ice breaker ones, which in the past, i've had to size up from my normal size to finally feel like im not wearing a leotard

I also 2nd Jim on the tech 140. I also have liked the hopper 190 by icebreaker (its perfect for backcountry or in town use. Looks like a shirt from the gap, but performs like the best of em in the woods)

Also, i feel that icebreaker is overpriced for what it is. I don't buy their stuff unless its from steep and cheap or on sale. I once bought a Mondo zip T by icebreaker for $20 brand new when its MSRP is $80. That was a lil rare, and my brain did explode when i saw the price, but generally you can find good deals on their stuff.

What's that logo made out of on the backcountry merino t's? Is it something I can remove without destroying the shirt? I hate sporting logos.

sorry friend, but the logo is some kind of iron on. Its reflective silver. However, its a silhouette of a goat. Very subtle…people probably have no idea what company it stands for. However, on the back right sleeve, behind the tricep, there is the same logo, but smaller, followed by the words 'backcountry'

If you click on "see more views" for the photo set, it'll bring up closeups of the logos and script

It's not so bad, especially if this is used as a baselayer for the outdoors. If you wanted to wear this in public…then i see your point

Ibex Q-Tee or long-sleeve version – best knit and most durable

Patagonia Wool 2 – lightest weight I've found

BPL Beartooth Hoody – if you'd like a hoody

Icebreaker and Backcountry.com house brands

MEC used to have very good and reasonably priced merino tees
